Of all the women I have spoken to and met for my documentary project Hijab Unravelled, this has - by far - been the easiest conversation to date. Usually it takes some time to get to know each other, to feel at ease and for the women in question to discover the true definition of their hijab. In Saara's (@perksofbeingsaara) case it was simple: she wears the hijab because of her sister. And it helped A LOT that we already knew each other for a while now and she is one of the easiest going and most lively people I have ever met!
And so I asked her: "Yes, I can understand that a sibling can have a huge influence, but what does it really mean to you?" And she kept answering: "I love wearing it because my sister does as well!" We dug and dug a little deeper, but the conclusion remained the same: she loves and admires her sister and for her this is the true reason she wears it. Well….what can I say? :) If that isn't true sisterly love….I don't know what is.
On the other hand, can you blame her? With Ruba Zai (@hijabhills) as a sister, I doubt it would be hard for anyone to follow in her sisters' footsteps….. Saara thank you for an amazing afternoon, I hope we see each other very soon again and for everyone who's interested: behind-the-scenes shots can be found here!
